Of great significance is the James River State Park. The James River snakes through woodlands, grasslands and lagoons where you can spot white-tailed deer, and roosting bald eagles and other migrant eagles, if you’re lucky. Cormorants, osprey and herons feast on the rich anadromous fish of the waters, like yellow perch, alewife, Atlantic sturgeon, striped bass, American shad and others. These fish are born in the river and return to it to spawn, but they live in the sea most of their lives.
